Yup, so far I definitely feel that I have won the first round. No side effects thus far. I did drink a 7-Up last night for a potential slight upset stomach, but nothing that I felt would require nausea medicine. And I was right. Today may bring a different result, but for now I'm doing fine.
My friend Cheryl drove me to my appointment. We had a few minutes to wait before my session, so we sat down to work on the jigsaw puzzle. We are feeling very under stimulated because we could not find one (no, not one single) piece to add to the puzzle. I like a challenge, but that was bad. Gives me an added incentive to go back!!!
My entire treatment took about 90 minutes. Started off with a saline drip. This is done just to make sure the line is clear. Then I got a nausea drip and something else that makes the nausea stuff work better. Then the chemo. We're using a drug called GEMZAR.
At the end of treatment I asked about a flu shot and they said now would be a perfect time to get it, while my healthy cells were not yet compromised by the chemo. This was verified with the doctor. So I can now cross "flu shot" off my list of things to do this fall.
The last thing they did was remove the (temporary) needle from my Port, gently clean the area and change the dressing - which I got to remove when I got back home.
Slept really good last night, which I'm sure was a two part result (one being the late night the day before and the other just knowing that the first session was over). It was really a non-event. I love those kinds of events.
One chemo session down - 17 more to go!
Love, hugs & prayers go out to each of you.

I'm inspired by the way you keep your "eyes on the prize."
Being able to "sleep well" is a gift... a vastly under-rated gift.
