We got an early start today and left Savannah around 10am. Now it's time to move on north.

A lake in Charleston. They say that this lake is 4 feet above sea level - - but when hurricane Hugo hit, the lake was 8 feet above that level. That would be like halfway up the trunks of those palm trees you can see in this photo.

This is the "first" Southern Baptist church. Charleston is sometimes called the Holy City because they allowed any religious body to establish a church here. They do have lots of churches. They are beautiful.

This is Ft. Sumpter in the distance, which sits at the front of Charleston Harbor. One of the first (maybe the first) actions of the Civil War.

We've had another busy day. We went into the city today to check out the visitor's center. Being that it was right downtown in the old district, we decided that while we were there we would try to get in a tour that day. Originally we were trying to go on a "Plantation Tour" but they cost $57 a piece. We had a choice of two different plantations - - one was no longer a working plantation, the other currently grows strawberries, but the home was actually built in the early 1930's. Since neither option was particularly attractive to us, we opted to just do a 1-1/2 hour driving tour of the historical downtown area.

Weather here is really nice, but lots colder at night than Florida. We also had quite a bit of wind today, and they were giving weather warnings of low humidity, coupled with the high wind to potentially cause a fire danger. Then tonight on the news they were saying there is a fire right now north of Myrtle Beach. Darn.............that's kind of where we are trying to go on Friday. Guess we'll have to play that by ear and perhaps change our plans. Never fear, we'll do what we have to do to be safe.

The days just kind of blend together. It's now 11:15pm and way past time for me to head to bed. But you know I do like to keep this blog current. So that's it for tonight.

Oh...........there are a lot of Prevost motor homes here in this park. They are getting ready for some big rally here this weekend. These motor homes can top out around $1,000,000 (million). They were towing rigs like Lexus, Cadillac....you know, the expense stuff. We feel like country hicks here, but hey, we're having fun. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow of us surrounded by these terribly expensive homes.
