Yes, it is true. After the brief one-hour ride yesterday, I am sore today. And nooooo, it's not my butt. Rather, my ribcage is sore. I guess that just proves how much actual physical exertion is involved in this activity I call horseback riding.
But I made the effort and crawled back on this afternoon. My Lena did oh so much better today. She still has a little "leaving home" anxiety, but we're working on it. Actually - it isn't leaving home that's the problem, it's going somewhere unknown. So this afternoon I took the time it took for her to become confident in the trip down the road. And a mere (yes, I know it was a lot more than that) 20 minutes later, we had traversed the entire two blocks to the field just east of my house. The trip consisted of walking two or three strides, then stopping (I call it relaxing). Then another two or three feeble steps.
It was amazing how much more self-assured she became with each forward movement. And one hour later, I was back at the barn with a happy horse and a very happy rider.
.............It was another very cold, but bright sun-shiny day today. So hard to stay inside, what with God teasing me with all these signs of spring. I'm ready. Bring it on!
Ouch.

Phyllis, that sounds like such fun! I'm glad you and Lena are able to spend unhurried time "relaxing" together.
: )
