Oh dear……where to start.
First of all, I had a very nice Christmas, although I really didn’t feel very well. I took about a 2-3 hour nap at my friend’s home after dinner. They were just about getting ready to come check up on me when I appeared from the bedroom.
And my dog was acting “out of sorts” that day as well. She would like just lay down and not move when people (or animals) came by. And her right front leg was limping A LOT. By the time I got home Friday night, her right hind leg was also causing her problems. Almost like she had had a little mini-stroke.
My back just killed me on Saturday, and I couldn’t seem to get rid of the pain, so I upped the ante on the drugs to some genetic Percocet (or Oxycodone with Tylenol). I had just eaten, as sometimes I know I get an upset tummy with codeine. But instead, I got really light-headed. Yes, I got my buzz on. As someone said to me “oh the miracles of modern medicine”!!! It was very weird. I got really warm. I wanted to go outside in my shorts, but knew that was wrong, since it was only about 25 degrees outside. So before things got too much out of control, I decided to go down and feed the animals and get them all taken care of. One thing about it, my back didn’t hurt for the rest of the night. But I will remember to just take ONE pill instead of TWO from now on.
And my dog? I had to carry her in and out of the house and up and down the stairs so that she could go potty. She just had no ambition at all to do anything. And I literally had to stabilize her bottom so that she could get into a standing position. She was that way all of Saturday. I still carried her outside this morning, but she did manage to do a #2 after two days (her appetite never diminished…….the girl loves to eat). So I am sure just having a bowel movement made her feel much better. After I got home from church and was able to get her on her feet by just moving in an excited fashion (she can’t hear, so saying stuff just doesn’t work anymore). She hobbled to the door and even went down the steps. After doing a perimeter check (walking the fence-line) and doing her business, she even managed to go up the steps on her own. She did that twice today. I’m sure the exercise was good for her. I guess I’m giving her “forced” physical therapy. At 16½ I know that she’s an old dog, but I really don’t think I’m ready to let her go just yet. Oh I would if I knew that she was in a lot of constant pain. But we’re not there yet.
My friend from church that has been helping me with some barn electrical stuff has been under the weather and not up to doing much. But he called a friend of his from work (I knew him) and Steve came out this afternoon and fixed part of my outlet problem. The cats now have a water heater that works, and I can move the radio back into the alley-way. Steve is going to put in a separate electrical line just for the second big water heater that I put in the horse water trough. I already have the PVC pipe, circuit breaker and the electrical wire. He’s going to pick up a GUI box, lid and whatever else we need. Hopefully we’ll get to that in the next week or so.
All in all, it has been a pretty good day today. When I went to church this morning I told folks that this is the best I have felt in probably two weeks. You don’t realize how bad you are until you actually have a GOOD day. Praise God for good days.
Ouch.
