We have decided that I will NOT be driving to Portland on Monday, 12/22, to shop for supplies. The roads are just too awful, and the Portland area has had wind, sleet, snow & freezing rain, with more anticipated.
So instead, I will sort through the Africa stuff I already have to take with us, pack it into team suitcases and then GO SHOPPING. For those of you that know me, I really do not like to shop. I'd much rather go to the dentist than spend a day at the mall. But shopping for others is another story. I like to do that. And I have a specific list of items, which will make it easier. I just have to make sure that everything I get will FIT into the suitcases I have.
And for those of you that care, I am indeed ALL PACKED. I spent most of Thursday getting things ready & stuffed into nooks & crannies. And now we wait.
Weather is still cold, so I'm still bundling up three (3) times per day and venturing out to the barn to feed the horses and carry water to them. If you get dressed warm, with lots of layers, the cold really isn't too bad. I even found a knit face mask that I used to use when snowmobiling. I look pretty stupid, but hey...........I'm warm.
ONE WEEK FROM TODAY we should be on an airplane bound for Washington DC and the first leg of our flight to Rwanda.
Ouch.

I'm glad you decided not to make the trip to Portland. It just sounded really dangerous. I wish I was there to help you shop!!! Spending money that doesn't come out of my pocket and buying gifts for people in need, well, it just doesn't get any better than that!!! Although, yes, going 4 days before Christmas does indeed sound CRAZY. I agree there. If I live close by I'd come keep you company. Hopefully finding everything on your list won't prove too challenging.
I doubt you look stupid with a knit face mask on when it's below 0 outside. Sounds pretty smart to me!
