Meeting the Team

Our group has gotten smaller. No, not because we have been on a diet. For various reasons, people have dropped out. In fact, three cancelled on Friday and another one earlier in the week. We started with 15 team members and now have 9. But we've got a good group and it was fun to meet them today as we gathered to learn about our mission trip and what was expected of us.

I had intended to take a group photo, but we got busy and I forgot. So here are a couple photos.

This first one (and yes, I recognize that it is taken from the back, and you see very few faces.......but hey, it's a picture, right?) shows 6 of the 7 of us. Erica & Amon complete the 9, but they are the founders of Africa Mission Alliance (AMA) and not included in us "recruits". Starting from the top are two gals from Surrey, B.C. Alex is a senior in high school. Sarah is 20 and in college. In the white is Angie. She's from Spokane and is about 22. Continuing clockwise is Betsy. She's the one that sold cinnamon rolls as a fundraiser. Next is Laura. She's from Portland and will be staying in Rwanda for six months, working with the children's choir. Colin is a guy from my church. His wife is in my bible study.

I liked this one because it shows Amon as he begins a presentation, with a map of the world overhead. Erica is in red, working on a computer.

Our indoctrination covered a variety of topics. Health, safety, communications, transportation, itinerary and responsibilities were the ones I remember. It was a full day.

The airline tickets will be paid for on Monday. Erica expressed her concern about it being a "group" reservation, which meant at least 10 members in the group. Now that we are down to 9, she is hoping that they won't charge us more, or cancel our spots. We will just have to trust that the Lord really wants us there and will find a way to make it happen. As soon as things are all confirmed, I will report back.

Tomorrow is a big day, so I've got to quit for now. I'll tell you more about it later.

I bet it felt good to finally meet your future travel companions and get lots of questions about the trip answered.
Hope your busy day today goes well!
